When asked to name up to three issues that personally interest or concern them the most and that the Australian Government should focus on, two in five Australians (42%) describe issues related to hospitals, healthcare and ageing. As minds turn to the COVID-19 recovery, three in ten describe issues related to the economy and finances (32%) or employment and wages (32%).

This is similar to our last True Issues poll taken in July, as COVID-19 cases began to rise again in some states – the total number of Australians who raise the COVID-19 pandemic as a top three issue or concern is almost three in ten (28%, similar to 30% in July).

True Issues is a research tool to assist Australian businesses to understand where their issues truly sit within the contemporary issues landscape. This poll was conducted as an online survey between 20th – 22nd November among a representative national sample of 1,035 Australians aged 18+ years.

In November 2020, as Victoria’s second wave of COVID-19 comes to an end and more state borders begin to re-open, Australians remain concerned for their own health and finances, as well as the broader healthcare system and national and state / territory economies.

Notably, as we head into the 2020-21 summer, nearly one in five Australians (19%) remain concerned about the environment and climate change.
