Post election, healthcare and ageing still most top of mind issues for Australians, ahead of the environment, economy and wages.

When asked to name up to three issues that personally interest or concern them the most, and that the Australian Government should focus on, 29 per cent of Australians describe issues related to hospitals, healthcare and ageing in JWS Research’s latest True Issues survey. True Issues is a research tool to assist Australian businesses understand where their issues truly sit within the contemporary issues landscape. This poll was conducted as an online survey augmented with focus groups between 26 – 30 June among a representative national sample of 1,000 Australians aged 18+ years.

Healthcare and ageing was also the leading concern in February, following media coverage of the Royal Commission into Aged Care. Four months later, Australians continue to be concerned about caring for an ageing population, as well as rising healthcare costs and ease of access to good quality care.

Australians want a return to focus on core government responsibilities. As JWS Research Founder and Director John Scales indicated to Phillip Coorey in the Australian Financial Review earlier this afternoon, “The leadership turmoil and dysfunction has fallen away, there’s no desire for a new radical agenda. They want stability.”
